Alectra Utilities encouraging participation in Earth Hour 2018

HAMILTON, Ontario, March 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Alectra Utilities is encouraging customers and the communities it serves across Ontario’s Greater Golden Horseshoe area to actively participate this Saturday in Earth Hour 2018.

Earth Hour is this Saturday, March 24 from 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. For one hour, cities around the world will turn off their non-essential lights for Earth Hour to raise awareness about climate change.

The goal of Earth Hour, a World Wildlife Fund initiative, is to get as many individuals and businesses as possible to turn off their lights for one hour to raise awareness about climate change. One way to slow the current rate of global warming is to get individuals to make small adjustments to the amount of power they consume each and every day.

Alectra Utilities will be leading by example during Earth Hour by turning off all non-essential lighting and equipment at all of its facilities. As in previous years, the company will reduce energy consumption at all its facilities by turning off non-essential computers, monitors and lights.

Alectra Utilities strives to reduce its power consumption each year for Earth Hour, and beyond, without compromising safety or providing essential services to customers.

Many Earth Hour participants turn off their lights and enjoy a device-free night, powering down all non-essential electronics and appliances. Some families take advantage of the hour to go for a walk or play board games by candlelight.

Together we can make a difference during Earth Hour. For more information, ideas and energy conservation tips, please visit www.alectrautilities.com  or  www.earthhour.org/what-is-earth-hour.
