April 29 Webinar to Focus on Energy Efficient Housing and Integrating Renewable Energy Technology

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy, in partnership with Western Area Power Administration, will present the next Tribal Renewable Energy Series webinar, Energy Efficiency, Zero Energy Ready Homes, and Off-grid Hybrid Power Generation Systems, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mountain time.

Attendees will learn about Zero Energy Ready Homes and discover how integrating off-grid diesel hybrid systems into such homes can deliver energy and comfort to rural Tribes.

“DOE defines a Zero Energy Ready Home as a high-performance home that is so energy efficient that a renewable energy system can offset all or most of its annual energy consumption,” said Amy Hollander, a project manager with DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and one of the webinar presenters.

Hollander and NREL Senior Electrical Engineer Robert Butt will discuss the latest developments in residential energy efficiency and highlight how the application of energy-efficient building principles and deep energy upgrades, in conjunction with the use of heat recovery ventilators,  can create airtight, healthy homes with near net-zero energy needs.

“Tribes will gain knowledge about how to move toward energy independence by using both renewable-based and fossil-fueled power generation systems to supply electricity needs of remote communities,” said Butt.

The webinar will also feature a video from Manual Hamilton of the Ramona Band of Cahuilla Indians highlighting community-scale heating with a wind and solar hybrid system.

There is no charge to attend the webinar, but advance registration is required. Register now.
