HÀ NỘI — The Hà Nội Sewage and Water Drainage Company has completed the installation of 16 cameras at flood-prone areas in the capital city.

Bùi Ngọc Uyên, deputy head of the company’s Foreign Affairs and Communications Division, said they started installing the cameras in March.

The cameras were installed at areas of high flood risk in different districts such as Hoàn Kiếm, Ba Đình, Cầu Giấy, and Đống Đa.

Before the installation of the cameras, inspectors had to report the flooding situation to the company’s operation centre via walkie-talkie, Uyên said.

The new cameras will help make flood monitoring and control quicker and more effective, he said.

Data from the cameras give real-time images that show inspectors the exact level of flooding at any given time. The images from the cameras can then be used by inspectors as a basis for deploying workers, equipment, and machines to the scene to help control the flooding.

The data will also be uploaded to the flood warning system to allow workers to give support to residents who want to avoid the inundated areas.

Research conducted by the company showed that Hà Nội has 15 high flood risk areas this rainy season, including the Phan Bội Châu-Lý Thường Kiệt and Đường Thành-Bát Đàn-Nhà Hỏa intersections, and Trường Chinh, Minh Khai, and Phạm Văn Đồng roads. — VNS
